P. 22

St. “Cosma”; of the two martyrs depicted in the second
underarch, one could be St. “Menas”, the other one is
unidentified. Two bishops are in the second underarch: St.
“Biagio” (?) and an unknown Saint. Finally, a monk,
probably St. “Nilus” who holds an unreadable open
cartouche in his left hand.
In the left arches there are a naked saint, St. “Onofrio”,
known as “the naked Saint”, a martyr, “St. Demetrius”,
holding a cross and a palm (as a symbol of his martyrdom),
the next one could be St. “Teodoro”. In the third underarch
there are two hierarchs of the Church, probably St. Basil
and St. Nicholas, both holding a sacred book in their left
hand, while with the other they bless.
Finally another hierarch, perhaps St. Athanasius.
Worthy of interest are the images of saints that populate the
south right side of the nave. Three of them still keep their
names: Iulitta, Anastasia and Irene; lastly follows the scene
of the Presentation of Mary in the temple, with the figures
in procession and a priest opposite the altar.
On the external surface of the left aisle, to the north,
however, between the first and second arch three saints are
painted. One in the center depicted in full, the other two in
half because they are truncated by the decorations. The
same subjects appear
in the space between
the second and third
arch, and all of them
hold a cross, some
even a sacred book.
